I used to live in a home that barely had any hardwood or tile floors outside of the kitchen and bathroom. Most of the surfaces in the home where I grew up had carpet in just about every room, and I grew to dislike this over time. I saw how spills, dirt, etc. all became such an issue with carpets. These adulterants would get into the carpets, and I would have to constantly vacuum my bedroom in order to feel like it was truly clean. I made the declaration that when I moved out on my own, my home would have hardwood floors everywhere! Not only did this eliminate the issue of having to constantly steam clean the carpets and vacuum them on a daily basis, but I just loved the way that hardwood floors made a home look. It looked cleaned and a bit minimilist to me in a way, and that’s exactly what I was looking for.
When I eventually did move out into my real long term home, I did get what I wanted in terms of the floors! While I still love the way that they look compared to homes which primarily have carpeting, I soon realized that they weren’t quite as easy to keep clean as I originally thought. Hardwood not only shows the dirt and grime a lot easier, but it tends to stick to the smooth surfaces a lot easier. No matter, however. I’ve always enjoyed these kinds of floors so much that I was willing to put up with the frustration of having to clean these hardwood floors a bit more thoroughly. Vacuum cleaning didn’t quite always get the job done in a manner that I was alright with.
Saved By The Steam Mops
It took me quite some time before I was switched over to the light side when it came to using steam mops! Before I made the switch I was still using the old technique which is, as you know I’m sure, quite a hassle. Since the majority of my home was hardwood, mopping the entire house took forever. Not only did mopping itself take a long time to get done, but much of the house also had large throw rugs on top of the hardwood in specific places. This gave it a nice elegant look, but it also meant that there was no reason not to clean these when I was mopping because why would I put down a dirty rug on top of my nice new hardwood floors, silly? Of course.
This meant I also vacuumed and shook out these giant rugs when I did the mopping, so needless to say as a big time procrastinator, this wasn’t a job I was driven to do as often as I should have. Setting aside that many hours to clean when I had enough energy to do it on the weekends once or twice a month was a big project that I needed to actually get myself prepared for.
After a few years of doing it the old fashioned way, like a guardian angel people kept nudging me to buy a steam mop. People I knew with a lot of hardwood or tile floors owned these handy devices, and after I gave some attention on a rainy Saturday to a site dedicated to the best steam mop ratings, I headed down to the store to purchase one. It received a lot of great steam mop reviews, so my hopes were high for it working well as advertised.
The rest, as they say, is history. Ever since that time I have always used steam mops to keep my hardwood floors clean. Steam mopping hardwood floors is so much easier than doing it the old fashioned way and you will save yourself so much time that it is probably going to blow your mind. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be kicking yourself over how many weekends you slaved away over that filthy bucket of dirty water mopping the floors!
